Who we are

At Jess’s Helping Hands, we are more than just a nonprofit—we are a movement dedicated to empowering individuals, strengthening families, and transforming communities. Through education, community service, and holistic wellness programs, we are committed to making a lasting impact on present and future generations.

We equip families with the knowledge to make healthier choices by offering workshops, meal-planning guides, and budgeting strategies for affordable, nutritious meals. Mothers learn how to read nutrition labels, shop wisely, and cook balanced meals to improve their family’s well-being.

Through structured habit-building programs, such as 30-day challenges, progress tracking, and positive reinforcement, we encourage individuals to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle. Small, manageable changes—like increasing water intake or staying active—help lay the foundation for long-term wellness.

We foster a culture of movement by organizing community fitness events, outdoor activities for children, and mother-child exercise classes. These programs make fitness fun, inclusive, and accessible while strengthening family bonds and encouraging active lifestyles from an early age.

Who we serve

We serve low-income individuals and families who lack access to essential wellness resources, ensuring that financial limitations are never a barrier to health. We uplift mothers and caregivers, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to create healthier environments for themselves and their children. Our initiatives provide children and youth with safe, engaging opportunities for physical activity and personal development, fostering positive habits from an early age. Additionally, we create spaces for community members seeking guidance and support to break free from generational cycles of poor health, lack of resources, and limited opportunities.

Through a holistic approach, we combine fitness programs, nutrition education, and wellness initiatives to empower individuals with the knowledge, tools, and encouragement needed to take control of their health and build a brighter, stronger future for themselves and their families.

Why our work matters

At Jess’s Helping Hands, our work matters because health and wellness should never be a privilege—it should be accessible to all. Too many low-income families, women, and children face systemic barriers that prevent them from living active, healthy lives. Limited access to fitness programs, proper nutrition, and wellness education contributes to poor health outcomes, chronic diseases, and generational cycles of hardship. We believe that by breaking these barriers, we can create lasting change in communities that need it most.

Through our free fitness programs, nutrition education, and holistic wellness support, we provide individuals with the tools and opportunities they need to take charge of their health. We’re not just promoting exercise—we’re fostering confidence, empowerment, and resilience. When families have access to resources that support their well-being, they gain the strength to break free from limitations, set positive examples for the next generation, and build a healthier future. Our work is more than just a mission; it’s a movement toward equity, empowerment, and lasting transformation.

About the founder - Jessica Garrett

Jess’s Helping Hands is deeply rooted in the lived experiences and expertise of its founder, Jessica, who has dedicated her life to empowering communities through health, wellness, and education. As a first-generation college graduate, entrepreneur, and the first in her family to earn a master’s degree, Jessica understands the challenges of breaking generational cycles. She holds a Master of Science in Community Medicine from Keck Graduate Institute, specializing in preventive and intervention-based medicine.

With over 24 years of service as a mentor, volunteer, and community advocate in Sacramento, Jessica has worked tirelessly to uplift those in need. She spent five years as a special education teacher, providing essential support to students with diverse learning needs. Her commitment to health and fitness extends beyond education—she is the owner of WERK WITH JESS LLC, a fitness coaching business dedicated to transforming lives through movement and motivation. Jessica’s journey to founding WWJ LLC was deeply personal. After a complicated pregnancy and multiple abdominal surgeries following the birth of her daughter in 2020, she struggled mentally and physically, no longer recognizing herself. Determined to regain her strength, she documented her fitness journey, inspiring other mothers along the way. What started as in-person coaching soon evolved into an online fitness platform, allowing her to reach and empower more women. Through Jess’s Helping Hands, she continues to use her experience, education, and passion to motivate others in goal-setting, time management, and personal growth—helping underserved individuals strive to be their very best.

Jessica’s passion for fitness and perseverance is also reflected in her athletic background. As a former NCAA Division I heptathlete at Alcorn State University, she competed at the highest levels in track and field. Her journey also includes varsity-level experience in basketball, cheerleading, cross country, and track and field, shaping her understanding of discipline, resilience, and teamwork.

Through Jess’s Helping Hands, Jessica channels her wealth of experience into providing underserved communities—especially women, children, and families—with the resources, education, and encouragement they need to take charge of their well-being. Her mission is clear: to break generational cycles, create opportunities for healthier futures, and build stronger, more empowered communities.
